A tweet popped up on my timeline the week before last from Friction Free Shaving mentioning a blogger event in Birmingham. I didn’t know much about the brand until I had a little stalk of their socials and discovered that they were cruelty-free and are most popular for their monthly shaving subscription service. I dropped a message to the company to show my interest in the event and to get a few more details not really thinking I would hear anything back. Low and behold, I got a message back telling me to send an email for more details to get onto the list of attendees!!
I was contacted by the lovely Amber and Melissa who informed me of all the necessary details, excited was an understatement. It’s strange to think that a year ago there is no way I would even think of attending an event where I didn’t know a single person and would have to travel there myself, screw you anxiety!
The event was hosted by The Alchemist, a fancy cocktail bar/restaurant in the centre of Birmingham. They are a chain of restaurants across the UK, which is news to me, I love the decor and layout of the whole place. Our group were in the basement area of the bar, so effectively we had the whole room to ourselves!! We got to meet Amber and Melissa in the flesh and they were so welcoming and make the night even better with their constant humour and entertainment. I met some lovely fellow bloggers there as well, shout out to Gweni, Abbey, Hayley, Debra-Bow, Alicia, the two Chloes and Nici who came along. Read until the end to see their socials!
I don’t think I even explained what the blogger event was actually all about, talk about waffling on! Friction Free Shaving invited us to participate in a cocktail making masterclass which sounded like so much fun and that it would probably be hilarious to see what skills we really had in the drinks department. It’s fair to say I wasn’t the best at making drinks apparently, I kept putting too much alcohol in mine (no comment) but hey I had a blast! The lovely ladies had asked our dietary requirements beforehand and I was presented with some delicious vegan brownies, they literally tasted like heaven – thanks, girls! Cupcakes with the company logo were also supplied and they looked so cute I had to take some snaps of those too.
On to the cocktail making… we had to go in pairs and as I was sat next to Gweni who enthusiastically offered to go first I didn’t have much choice in taking part straight away! The first drink was strawberry flavoured, sorry I can’t remember what it was called but it was delicious.
Absolutely no idea why I look shocked in this photo but my highlighter is on fleek! I got Amber to take some photographs with my camera whilst I was focusing on perfecting the first cocktail. I think Gweni beat me on the cocktail front because I kept spilling mine and making them too strong.
Time to shake up the cocktail. I swear I was petrified that the whole drink would spill everywhere and I’d embarrass myself but I survived and it actually tasted semi-decent. I was happy with a constant supply of cocktails and brownies to keep me going – no complaints here.
It’s like the little and large show here! I towered over Gweni, part of it might have been because I decided to wear my wedged boots, oops. I look shiny af in these photos, I swear it’s my highlighter okay.
Okay, I admit we didn’t make these cocktails but they fit the aesthetic soooo. I believe one of these was peaches and cream and the other was some kind of steaming potion drink that looked insane when it was poured out!
At the end of the evening, Amber and Melissa went through one of the current Friction Free boxes that are on offer this Christmas for £25 (they were £31) which were in the goodie bags we were given. Friction Free Shaving is a subscription service that is delivered to your door monthly for £9/10 and you can choose between 3 different handles and you can even have them personalised! Inside our box, we received a rose gold handle with four blades to last for the month along with a pre-shave scrub, shave cream and post-shave balm. Found a bit more about FFS below:
